Villa Clodia, Italy
A wedding at Villa Clodia is an occasion shaped by its surroundings, but remembered through the people who gather to celebrate it. Set in the countryside near Rome, with views towards Lake Bracciano, this wedding brought together a beautiful outdoor ceremony, a gathering of family and friends, and an evening filled with music and dancing. The celebration unfolded across the venue's terrace, gardens and reception spaces. From the exchange of vows overlooking the lake to the couple's first moments together as newlyweds, each part of the day had its own character.
As a wedding photographer working in Rome, Bracciano and destinations throughout Italy, I approach a celebration like this with attention to both its setting and the relationships at its centre. The photographs follow the day as it happens, preserving the atmosphere of the venue alongside the gestures, expressions and interactions that make each wedding personal.

Villa Clodia Wedding Photographer – A Wedding Overlooking Lake Bracciano
Set above the countryside surrounding Lake Bracciano, this wedding at Villa Clodia unfolded between an open-air ceremony, garden portraits, a long summer dinner and an evening filled with dancing. It was a celebration with a strong sense of place, but also one shaped by the personalities of the couple and the people who had travelled to Italy to be with them. The bride immediately brought something distinctive to the visual story of the day. Instead of a traditional white wedding dress, she chose a soft blue and lavender floral gown, finished with a short veil and delicate flowers in her hair. Beside her, the groom wore a light blue suit with an open-collar white shirt. Against the greens of the Italian countryside and the pale blue of Lake Bracciano in the distance, their choices felt completely at home in the setting.
An Open-Air Wedding Ceremony at Villa Clodia
The ceremony took place on Villa Clodia's panoramic terrace, with Lake Bracciano visible beyond the surrounding hills. Guests gathered in rows facing the terrace while abundant white floral arrangements marked the aisle and framed the couple. The setting needed very little embellishment: beyond them were layers of woodland, countryside and water stretching towards the horizon. Rather than photographing the ceremony from a single position, I wanted the images to retain that sense of openness. Some frames include the entire gathering, showing the couple surrounded by their guests and the landscape beyond. Others move closer to the vows, smiles and small reactions that happened between them.
One of my favourite moments came immediately after the ceremony, as the newlyweds walked back through their friends and family. The formality disappeared almost instantly. Guests turned towards them, applauding and smiling, while the couple looked at each other in the middle of it all.
Those transitions are often where a wedding begins to feel most personal.
Wedding Portraits in the Gardens
After the ceremony, we stepped away for a short series of portraits around the grounds of Villa Clodia.
The gardens gave us a completely different atmosphere from the wide terrace. Stone staircases, curved brick paths, greenery and flowering plants created quieter spaces where the couple could simply be together for a while.
Their portraits were intentionally uncomplicated. A walk through the garden, a kiss beside the steps, a few minutes away from the crowd.
The bride's floral gown became particularly beautiful here. Its long, airy skirt changed shape as she moved and gave the portraits an almost painterly quality without needing elaborate posing.
For me, couple portraits should still belong to the wedding rather than feel like a separate editorial production. I want to create beautiful photographs, but I also want the couple to recognise themselves in them.
Dinner on the Terrace Above Lake Bracciano
Later, the terrace was transformed for dinner.
A long wooden table stretched across the outdoor space, dressed with white flowers, glassware and simple place settings. Strings of lights crossed overhead while the landscape remained completely open behind it.
Before the guests sat down, I photographed the newlyweds walking through the reception setting together. It gave us a chance to include not only the couple but the scale of the terrace and the atmosphere that had been created for the evening.
This is one of the reasons Villa Clodia works so beautifully for a destination wedding near Rome. The day can change character several times without losing its connection to the landscape: ceremony overlooking Lake Bracciano, portraits in the gardens, dinner outdoors and then a completely different atmosphere once the party begins.
When Dinner Turned Into a Party
By nightfall, the mood had changed completely.
The quiet garden portraits and expansive views of the afternoon gave way to music, coloured lights, glasses in the air and a dance floor surrounded by friends.
At one point, the groom swept the bride into a deep dip as their guests cheered around them. Later she was in the middle of the dance floor herself, laughing with a glass in her hand while everyone gathered around. These are the parts of a wedding I never want to over-direct.
Once the party begins, the most interesting photographs usually come from watching rather than arranging. A reaction in the background, somebody suddenly joining the dance floor, an unexpected kiss or the expression on a friend's face can say far more about the celebration than another perfectly posed photograph.
The result is a gallery that changes rhythm as the wedding changes: spacious and calm during the ceremony, intimate during the portraits, elegant around the dinner table and increasingly spontaneous as the evening unfolds.
Villa Clodia Wedding Photography in Bracciano
Photographing a wedding at Villa Clodia is also about understanding how to use its different spaces throughout the day.
The panoramic terrace naturally creates the defining view of the celebration, with the countryside and Lake Bracciano beyond it. The gardens offer a more secluded environment for portraits, while the reception spaces allow the story to continue well after sunset.
But the location should never become more important than the wedding itself.
My approach as a Bracciano wedding photographer is to use the architecture, landscape and light to give each photograph a sense of place while keeping the people at the centre of the story.
That balance is especially important for couples planning a destination wedding in Italy. You have chosen Italy for a reason, so the photographs should unmistakably belong here - but years from now, what matters most will still be the people, relationships and moments contained within them.
